In order to apply as an exchange student, you need to be enrolled as a student at one of our partner universities and be officially nominated for exchange through the International Office at your home university. Therefore, please check with your International Office about the selection and nomination process at your home university first. Please also keep in mind that you can only take courses at one of the four Campuses at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria and the cooperation agreement with your home university needs to be valid for the according Campus.
If you intend to apply as a degree-seeking student, please refer to the pages for International Degree-Seeking Students for further information.

Please submit your application papers to the International Office at the Campus where you intend to study on exchange. The applications must be submitted first by e-mail and the original documents should then be sent by regular mail.
After you have been accepted as an exchange student, the International Office will contact you and send you an information package and a Letter of Acceptance via e-mail or regular mail.
The UAS Upper Austria admits exchange students on the basis of bilateral agreement with partner universities and the balance in exchanges.
Exchange students are generally expected to have shown a good academic performance and completed at least 3 semesters of relevant studies at their home universities before coming on exchange to Upper Austria. For Wels Campus, exchange students need to have completed at least 4 semesters of studies due to the fact that most of the courses offered in English are at an advanced level technical level.
For participating in courses taught in English a B2 level of English is required. From exchange students we generally expect English proficiency equivalent to TOEFL CBT 196, TOEFL IBT 70, IELTS 5.5, TOEIC 700, or Cambridge FCE. If you take a TOEFL test, you can use our university's TOEFL code ( 9775) to send us the results automatically.
Depending on the Campus you are applying for we might be able to accept a testimonial by your home university confirming your language proficiency.
For attending any courses taught in German, a B2 level of German is required. German language skills may be confirmed either with an official certificate (e.g. by Goethe Institute, or ÖSD) or by a testimonial by your home university's German teacher.
It is your responsibility as a student to take care of visa arrangements, therefore please inform yourself carefully about the legal situation for entry into Austria from your country. This is especially important for non-EU citizens.
With the Letter of Acceptance you will receive from us upon acceptance , you can go to the Austrian embassy in your country and apply for a Visa (stays of up to 6 months, not extendable) or Residences Permit (for stays of more than 6 months). There will additional documents required, such as a proof of accommodation, of finances and of health insurance.
